Paranormal Creatures: Washington D.C.'s Demon Cat

The Demon Cat (or D.C. ironically) is one of the most intriguing and best known ghost stories of Washington D.C. This cat is known to be one of the most mysterious and dangerous paranormal entities in the city. This phantom cat creeps along the shadows of the capitol crypt ready to attack any victims that get in its way.

The story of this cat started back when cats were brought into the capitol buildings basement tunnels to kill rats. The Demon Cat apparently never left. When it appears, it’s been said to appear in the basement of the Senate near the Catafalque Storage Room, which is where a president’s casket is when he lies in state in the Rotunda. The gate of this room rather does look like a gate to hell and it is supposedly the home of The Demon Cat. This room was originally supposed to be President George Washington’s burial chamber.

According to witnesses, the cat has fully black fur and appears as a normal sized house cat. Once the cat spots its victim though, it grows abnormally large. It goes from a normal size cat to the size of a fully grown tiger. The eyes glow yellow and as it pounces on it’s victim either the victim passes out or the cat disappears before it can pounce on it’s victim. In 1862 and 1898, shootings occurred in the basement of the capitol. Guards claimed to have shot at a black cat that grew to the size of a tiger. One guard apparently died of a heart attack after seeing the cat. The paw prints of the cat are permanently cast into the concrete of the Old Senate Rotunda to remind people that the black cat may be waiting for you just around the corner. Accounts have indicated that the cat does not attack until its victim is alone. Most people who have seen it have reported feeling a sense paralysis. It was spotted one time outside of congress. A man said that a black cat was injured and started to follow it. Then two officers approached him saying he wasn’t allowed in the area. He mentioned a black cat was hurt, but as soon as he looked back at it, it was gone.

The Demon Cat is said to appear before a change in presidential office and national tragedies. It has been said that the cat appeared before the assassinations of Presidents John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln and before the death of FDR. It was also spotted in 1929 before the Stock Market Crash. However, it did not show up before the September 11, 2001 attacks or hurricane Katrina. Interestingly though, when asked if it appeared before these tragedies, people would stay quiet, not wanting to talk about it. Maybe because they did not want to be thought of as crazy. There are some hauntings all over the world where everyone knows about it yet at the same time everyone keeps quiet about it.

The Demon Cat is one of the most interesting stories on paranormal phenomena that I have ever come across. But is it really a demonic presence? If it appears the night before or week before some sort of tragedy, perhaps this cat is giving the nation a warning sign of some sort in order to save us ahead of time. Maybe the next time the cat is spotted it can be reported and our country can be saved.

The Mothman is another infamous paranormal creature who appears before a tragedy. Everyone thought it did harm, but it was actually uncovered by Psychic Chip Coffee that sight of the Mothman is a warning sign of tragedy about to happen. So the next time one of the night guards at the Capitol Hill crypt spots The Demon Cat, they can call Jack Bauer and he can get ready for another 24 hour sleepless day. Or perhaps since election day 2012 is coming, it could be letting Obama know that his term in office is ending sooner then he expected. I guess we’ll find out come November.
